Modular
Energy Devices has pioneered a new electronically
controlled battery architecture (patent pending)
that reliably combines many small commercial cells
in parallel to make large batteries. The electronics
compensate for differences from cell to cell,
protect the cells from abuse, and prevent a single
cell failure from seriously affecting overall
performance.
The use of the small cells is transparent to the
customer, since the cells and electronics are
integrated inside the battery module. The only
thing visible about our advanced battery modules
is their lower cost, safety and reliable operation.
The architecture allows our customers to benefit
from the low cost and high reliability of small,
commercial Lithium-ion cells used in laptops and
cell phones. The world-wide production of these
cells is now approaching 1 billion per year!
